We are excited to announce the arrival of our

Animal Skills Programs.

 Animal Skills Workshop 

This program is aimed at any young people 

The program is an approx 2 hour program run at the PAWS Darwin shelter, capped at 10 participants. The participants will have an opportunity to learn about the PAWS Darwin shelter and what it means to work in a shelter. Participants will make a toy for their pet or a shelter pet, make some treats, learn some dog tricks and spend time with cats and dogs. 

Participants will be supervised by PAWS Darwin Team members (Holders of Ochre cards) and have an opportunity to understand why we encourage desexing pets, feeding healthy diets and the importance of training. 

This program runs for two hours at a cost of $30 per participant. There are 10 participants per workshop. Participants under 10 years of age will need a guardian to accompany them.

The Animal Skills program is designed to help youth find confidence through working with animals to build life skills that will support their every day life. The participants will have the opportunity to learn about animals, about careers working with animals and the sense of achievement when interactions are successful. The overall outcomes will see the Youth who are not only able to help to prepare animals for a working role in the community but also how animals can help and work to improve people’s wellbeing. 

To be eligible for this program applicants guardian or teacher will need to fill in the application form below.

These days will be held at the Malak Primary School and participants need to be registered below to be able to attend.

Day starts at 9 am and will finish at 2:00 pm. Lunch will be provided.

Owned dogs will not be able to attend unless they have been assessed first and previous to the day.

Each day is capped at 10 participants.

3 day program: up to 10 participants

The Animal Skills program is designed to help youth find confidence through working with animals to build life skills that will support their every day life. The participants will have the opportunity to learn about animals, about careers working with animals and the sense of achievement when interactions are successful. The overall outcomes will see the Youth are not only able to help to prepare animals for a working role in the community but also how animals can help and work to improve people’s wellbeing. This intensive course will include visits from other animal care Industry participants, learning about diet, and having opportunity to learn and teach tricks to the dogs.
