Foster

Become a Foster Carer

At Paws Darwin we believe in minimising the amount of time animals are in cages at the shelter and instead work to get them out into foster homes as soon as possible.

We find that animals in foster homes tend to be better adjusted and they transition to forever homes more easily and with less behaviour issues. It also enables us to truly understand what their likes, dislikes and behaviour quirks are in a home environment so we can better match them up to an appropriate forever home.

We cover medical expenses including but not limited to tick & flea treatment, worming, vaccinations and desexing whilst they are in foster care. We can also provide dry food and cat litter if required (dependent on donations to the shelter).  For dogs we provide and encourage you to attend weekly training classes.

We ask that you provide a safe, secure and loving environment for a dog and/or cat. Additional requirements include ensuring the animal is taken to vet appointments as required, providing updated photos/videos and personality information to the shelter on a regular basis and promptly contacting potential adopters and arranging meet and greets.

Registered Foster Carers are also invited and encouraged to join our Facebook support group for up to date information and advice. Shelter staff will help work through any concerns or issues which may come up during the foster.

If you feel that you could help make a difference and contribute to saving the life of an unwanted dog or cat please complete a Foster Carer Registration Form in the link below and then pop into our shelter with photo ID for an interview.

We will then be able to match you up with a foster animal that best suits your lifestyle, family, pets and home environment.
