The importance of Training

As you know if you adopt a dog from us then we give you either four weeks free training or Puppy preschool classes depending on the age of the dog. say may think that this is generous while others choose not to use their training or to go elsewhere. We are cool with people going elsewhere at least they are working with their dogs. For those who choose not to take us up on the offer here’s so things to think about.

Training is as much about bonding as anything else.

The more time you spend training your dog the better your relationship. What does training involve? for most of us we dont care a great deal about obedience training what we want is a dog that can come anywhere with us and behave, not to be lunging and barking at the end of their lead, not to ignore us and certainly not jumping on us or others,. Training should be about building your dogs confidence, learning to read their body language better and helping them to focus on you instead of everything else that is out there. Good training will help youth learn what you dog is thinking, wether it is nervous or angry. The amount of times an unsocialised dog comes to class with an owner convinced it hates other dogs only to find that the dog loves other dogs and they misunderstood the dogs intentions, its a great feeling to see that change in confidence for owner and dog. Often the building of trust in a relationship inspires obedience and focus.

Peoples skills

Classes help people to build skills, I know I know, we all are natural dog handlers right? Lets face it we like to do things the way we think they should be done and in lots of cases with dog handling this is ok and it works out fine, but sometimes a small change of the way you handle a lead or the way that you call the dog will make a huge difference to your relationship with your dog. Is there and exact right way to do any of these things? No! it comes down to you and your dog and your uniques relationship with your dog, but when you come to training there’s an extra set of eyes who can help you to see what works and what doesn’t and to coach you to a method that works for you.

Socialisation

Sometimes socialising is as much for you as for your dog. it gives you and your dog an opportunity to learn to speak other languages, Hows that? you may well ask! well not every dog speaks the same language as the next dog, There are so many variable factors in how dogs communicate, breed, ear shape colour and even their social isolation can impact on their use of body language and their understanding.
