Volunteers are the heart and soul of Paws Darwin. As a not for profit organisation we just can’t survive without the generous time and energy of our team of volunteers !!!!

There are so many ways you can help. Here are just some of the ideas :

  • Exercise the dogs in the shelter
  • Play with the cats in the shelter
  • Cleaning cages and yards
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Admin support with responding to emails and requests
  • Advertising on social media
  • Repairs & maintenance on our facilities
  • IT support including website design

Unfortunately we cannot currently accept volunteers under 16 years of age. If you are under 18 we also require you to be accompanied by a parent, carer or supervisor who is also a registered volunteer. However we would still love the help of young people under the age of 16. You can help by raising money, blanket, food and toy drives. You do not have to be a volunteer to contribute in other ways to Paws Darwin.

Volunteer Position Vacant 

Sunday Morning Team Members

We are looking for committed team members to support the Sunday shift at the shelter.

this shift requires: Dog walkers, help with cage cleaning, cat support.

From 9-11 on a Sunday the suitable person/s would attend the shelter, help with any duties required and take the time to play with the animals while they are there. 

The shift starts at 9 am  and ends at 11 am

Fundraising co-ordinator

Do you love getting out and making things happen? Do you want to do something for a cause? We are looking for a fundraising co-ordinator to support our team and get people thinking about ways they can support our shelter, wether it be market stalls or sausage sizzles, adoption days or cake stalls, all ideas are welcome, If you wold like to be part of fundraising for an organisation that supports the community apply here:

 

 

Events Team

We are looking for team members to help co-ordinate and plan events for 2023.

We all know this year has been a bit of a fizz but we’d like to jump into the new year with enthusiasm. If you are interested in participating or planning events like Adoption days or Market Stalls and you feel that this is a role you would enjoy please apply here:

 

 

 

 

 

Veterinary Clinic Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who will support the PAWS Darwin Community Vet, If you are interested in committing to a regular role in the Vet Clinic at PAWS Darwin we would love to hear from you.

Depending on your qualifications your role would include cleaning of clinic and animals cages, Washing, learning to clean equipment, supporting the Vet Nurses role. If you are studying Vet Nursing and you would like to gain some experience this would be a great role for you.

Our requirements. Commitment of minimum one day per week shift. (weekday only) as training takes time and the team wants to be sure that any applicant will be consistent.

 


 

 

Puppy School Volunteer

PAWS Darwin puppy school is about to launch a whole new program and we are looking for a volunteer who will be committed to spend Saturday Morning with our puppy class.

You don’t have to know anything our puppy school trainer will guide you through everything you need to know. You do need to be committed to turning up every Saturday morning.

Your duties will include but not be limited to: playing with puppies, helping with admin, cleaning up puppy messes, helping to set up for  and pack up after classes.

If you are interested Dog Training our puppy classes will help you to learn the basics of training.

Shelter Based Dog Trainers

PAWS Darwin Shelter is looking for individuals keen on spending time with our shelter dogs while in shelter and helping to make them ready for their new homes. Your role would be to provide enrichment through training and other activities and to support happy quiet social dogs with resilience. PAWS Darwin will support your skill set by offering free training in the positive methods that we use, and involving you in any of our classes online or in person. 

Commitment required: Minimum 1 shift a week so that we can spend time with you to ensure that you get the best possible outcomes. If you are a FIFO worker we will accept other time arrangements.

Please note that you may be working with different dogs every time if you only come once weekly.

 

 

Puppy Play Co-Ordinator

We are looking for a puppy play co-ordinator at PAWS Darwin shelter. If you love puppies and have an interest in enrichment activities this may be the role for you. This volunteer position entails:

Prepare activities for puppies

Teach manners activities like sitting for food and waiting at Doorway

Preparing stuffed chew toys 

Supervising puppy play

Cleaning up after puppies

Ensuring all equipment is clean

Cleaning up the play yard.

As this is a new role some help will be required setting up their play area and ensuring that puppies will be safe and well contained.

When: This is a daily activity and as such can be job shared, time of day is flexible but would be two – three hours daily
